From Ukwulu Village to Global Podium: The Rise of St. John Vianney Science College

When students from a rural school in Ukwulu, Anambra stunned British prep schools to win the first UK–Nigeria Debate Championship, few were surprised. St. John Vianney Science College has quietly been outperforming elite institutions across Nigeria and bringing home international trophies. This year, the school added Private Secondary School of the Year at the 2026 Anambra Man of the Year Awards to its accolades. Its achievements include back-to-back national wins in the Prime Value Mathematics Competition, victory in the National Girls in ICT Competition, and the Diamond Challenge Nigeria crown that led to global representation. Beyond STEM, the college’s debaters have featured in Nigeria’s team at the World Schools Debating Championships and excelled in national e-debates. By blending rigorous technical training with global exposure, the institution is redefining secondary education standards in southeastern Nigeria, showing that world-class talent can emerge from any community.
