Stop Excusing INEC’s Flaws, Bashir Ahmad Tells APC Backers
Former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad has urged APC members and supporters to stop defending every perceived shortcoming of the Independent National Electoral Commission. He made the appeal in a post on his official social media account amid a dispute between INEC and the African Democratic Congress. He warned that excusing the commission’s controversial suspension of the ADC’s David Mark-led leadership could fuel allegations of bias toward the ruling party. The APC backed INEC’s decision and maintains that excluding the ADC from the 2027 ballot is not a major issue. But Bashir argued that blindly defending such actions only reinforces claims that INEC is favouring his party ahead of the next general elections. He wrote, “We, as supporters of the APC, should stop defending every shortcoming of INEC or its leadership. Doing so only fuels allegations that the electoral body is working to favour our party.”
