FG Proposes Embedding Journalists in Military Operations to Boost Transparency
The Federal Government is planning a new scheme to let journalists join military units during select operations. The move aims to improve security reporting and strengthen public trust in defence efforts. Announced by the Minister of Defence at a National Security Summit with the NUJ and DSS, the proposal would embed reporters with troops to provide firsthand accounts. Officials say this step will foster closer media–military collaboration and reduce misinformation. The initiative comes as Nigeria battles insurgency, banditry and kidnapping. It could reshape media–security relations and give citizens clearer insight into the frontline fight against crime and terrorism.
