Wike Pledges Stronger Nigeria–Japan Partnership to Accelerate Abuja Development
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to deepen collaboration with the Japanese government and JICA. He praised Japan’s role in shaping and reviewing the Abuja Master Plan as essential for the city’s future growth. Wike highlighted Japan’s contributions in education, health, nutrition and teacher training in Tokyo. He also identified agriculture and urban development as priority areas under the Renewed Hope Agenda, promising an enabling environment for new projects. Japanese Ambassador Suzuki Hideo and JICA’s Chief Representative Ishigame Keiji confirmed ongoing and upcoming initiatives. These include infrastructure, waste management, a plastics value chain pilot with UNIDO, and a comprehensive review of Abuja’s Master Plan to guide sustainable growth through 2050.
