FG Warns of Skills Gap as Foreigners Fill Tiling Jobs

FG Warns of Skills Gap as Foreigners Fill Tiling Jobs

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Education says the country is battling a major skills shortage among its youth. Even simple trades like tiling are often carried out by workers from neighbouring countries, while many graduates remain unemployed. The minister highlighted unfilled roles in the booming solar energy sector, blaming a lack of trained technicians. To bridge this gap, the Federal Government has rolled out Technical and Vocational Education and Training programmes in 25 key skill areas. Over 100,000 young people are already enrolled in six- and twelve-month courses nationwide. Graduates receive starter packs to help them launch their careers, underlining the view that certificates alone are no longer enough in today’s job market.
