Tinubu Delivers on Promise, Awards D’Tigress Abuja Flats and National Honours
The Nigerian government has officially presented D’Tigress with title documents for Abuja flats and Officer of the Order of the Niger certificates. The ceremony took place on March 16 in Lyon, where the team is competing in the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifiers. NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko and DG Bukola Olopade handed over the awards that President Tinubu pledged after Nigeria’s fifth straight Women’s AfroBasket title in Abidjan last August. Dikko praised the government’s commitment and confirmed that the $100,000 individual cash bonuses are being finalised. Amy Okonkwo earned MVP honours at AfroBasket and joined the All-Tournament team. The housing and national awards for D’Tigress follow similar rewards given to the Super Falcons for their 2025 WAFCON triumph and the Super Eagles for their AFCON silver-medal finish. These gestures reflect a broader initiative to recognise and support Nigeria’s leading national teams for their continental achievements.
