US Cuts African Visa Centres to 20 Cities – Abuja Left Out
Nigeria’s capital has been left off the Trump administration’s new list of 20 African cities where US visa applications will be processed. Lagos will remain a regional hub, but Abuja did not make the cut. The State Department plans to reduce its African visa-processing sites from around 50 to just 20, citing security screening and resource efficiency. Centres in Accra, Nairobi, Johannesburg and 17 other cities will stay open. Applicants from countries without a hub will now need to travel to one of the designated cities. Consular services such as passport renewals and emergency assistance will continue in non-hub nations. Officials say the change, expected in June, aims to align overseas operations with US priorities and manage taxpayer resources more efficiently.
