Sanwo-Olu Urges Unity Against Entertainment Piracy at AMVCA
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has called on all stakeholders in Africa’s creative industry to unite in the fight against piracy. Speaking at the 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards in Lagos, he warned that unchecked intellectual property theft could undermine hard-won gains in film, music and digital content. He stressed that no matter how brilliant the work, creators cannot flourish if piracy strips them of their economic rewards. Sanwo-Olu lamented that revenue losses and reduced investment risk the long-term sustainability of the sector. Also addressing the gathering, the Director-General of the Nigerian Copyright Commission emphasized the need for stronger collective action and a culture of respect for copyright. He reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to protecting creators and urged everyone to reject all forms of piracy and copyright abuse.
