Shettima Inaugurates NELMCO Headquarters, Vows Major Power Sector Reforms
Vice President Kashim Shettima has inaugurated the new headquarters of the Nigerian Electricity Liability Management Company in Abuja. He challenged the agency to take a decisive role in boosting electricity supply across the country. Shettima reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to overhauling the power sector. He stressed that governance, transparency and accountability must guide efforts to modernise Nigeria’s energy system and secure national development. Describing NELMCO as vital in clearing legacy debts, the Vice President said the agency’s work is key to restoring investor confidence and making the electricity market more commercially viable. He also invited private investors and international partners to seize emerging opportunities in the sector. NELMCO’s Managing Director noted that the agency has generated over N30 billion in revenue while functioning as a clearing house for past liabilities. Other speakers highlighted how the new facility reflects the government’s resolve to strengthen liquidity, attract investment and deliver more reliable power.
