Lagos Commits to Net-Zero: Joins Under2 Coalition at London Climate Week
Lagos State has formalised its membership of the Under2 Coalition with a new Memorandum of Understanding signed during London Climate Action Week 2026. This partnership reaffirms the state’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions and building climate-resilient economies. The governor noted that joining the coalition will deepen collaboration with subnational governments worldwide. Through Lagos’ State-Determined Contributions framework, the state will move from policy development to practical implementation of low-carbon initiatives. Membership is expected to unlock opportunities for climate investment, international partnerships and stronger resilience programmes. The Under2 Coalition, which includes over 180 regions, praised Lagos as a leading example of climate action in Africa. The Lagos delegation featured senior officials in environment, economic planning, SDGs and public-private partnerships. Stakeholders believe this move will enhance global cooperation on sustainable development.
