Can the Father, Son and Spirit Commit Evil Separately?
The Bible records that the Lord “repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people” (KJV). This raises questions about the Trinity’s actions. Can each Person—the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit—act independently when it comes to evil? Are there biblical examples of them doing so on their own? Example 1: Jacob wrestles with a man at night (Genesis 32:24–30). Many scholars see this as an encounter with the pre-incarnate Christ. Example 2: Spirit-empowered Samson kills a lion and later slays a thousand Philistines, even taking their spoil (Judges 14:5–6; 15:14–16). Does this show the Spirit acting separately? What other passages suggest individual actions by the Father, Son or Spirit in doing good or evil?
