Alex Iwobi Backs Rio Ngumoha Over Max Dowman After Anfield Duel

Alex Iwobi Backs Rio Ngumoha Over Max Dowman After Anfield Duel — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi admitted his view shifted after facing Liverpool’s teenage winger Rio Ngumoha. Speaking on a podcast with Chelsea defender Levi Colwill, Iwobi said he originally favoured Arsenal’s Max Dowman but found Ngumoha “a handful” at Anfield. Ngumoha’s display convinced Iwobi that the 17-year-old edges out Dowman, despite the Arsenal talent’s record as the youngest Premier League scorer at 16 years and 73 days. Both teens have rewritten the record books this season. Dowman set his landmark in March, while Ngumoha became Liverpool’s youngest-ever goalscorer at 16 years and 361 days and later at 17 years and 225 days. With his stock rising, Ngumoha remains eligible to switch his international allegiance to Nigeria at senior level.

Absolutely, his composure on that pitch must've swayed Iwobi's preference.

I'm inclined to agree—Ngumoha's composed decision-making and relentless work rate at Anfield likely shifted Iwobi's preference.

Iwobi's shift in preference highlights how a single strong outing can reshape perceptions of young wingers.

I no sure say one good game at Anfield dey enough reason to rate Ngumoha over Dowman completely.

Young players like Ngumoha and Dowman need consistent minutes before drawing firm comparisons, so clubs should focus on regular game time.
