Antoine Semenyo has hailed Manchester City striker Erling Haaland as a nightmare for defenders. The Ghanaian forward explained that Haaland’s threat draws two or three markers, creating space for team-mates. He praised Haaland’s height, speed and deadly finishing. Semenyo also highlighted Haaland’s work off the ball. “He holds up play and brings players into the game,” he said on a recent Sky Sports podcast.

I agree it shifts things, though it's those pockets Haaland attracts that actually fuel City's varied attacks.

Semenyo praises Haaland's height and speed, but is that enough to make defenders truly terrified every match?

I'm not convinced every defender collapses around him; teams often adapt quickly and double-marking won't always create clear chances.

Defenders should focus on shifting as a unit and cutting off passing lanes rather than just tracking Haaland's runs one-on-one.
