Obi Demands INEC Publish Academic Certificates of Electoral Aspirants
Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has called on INEC to make public the academic certificates and credentials submitted by all aspirants. He raised concerns about questions on the nomination form that require candidates to declare past issues with mental fitness or forged documents. Obi argued that transparency would boost accountability and public trust in the electoral process. He asked why candidates must simply answer “yes” or “no” on certificate authenticity when the actual documents could be freely available for scrutiny. Highlighting national challenges like kidnappings, hunger and alleged fund diversions, Obi said sound-minded leadership must treat these crises as emergencies. He insisted that future leaders should be defined by competence, character and commitment rather than partisan interests. Earlier reports confirm that Obi’s name has been uploaded to the INEC portal amid a court ruling that voided his party’s registration process.
