OAU Staff Join Nationwide Strike as FG Delays 2009 Agreement Implementation
Academic and non-academic staff at Obafemi Awolowo University have joined the ongoing nationwide strike demanding the Federal Government implement the 2009 agreement. Members of SSANU and NASU held a peaceful protest at Freedom Park in Ile-Ife, carrying placards calling for urgent action. The SSANU Chairman at OAU, Mr Ademola Junaid, said the strike was prompted by government delays in concluding the long-standing agreement. He acknowledged President Tinubu’s loan intervention for workers’ welfare but said it falls short of addressing their core demands. NASU Chairman Mr Dayo Oyediwura accused the government of favouring one union over others and urged fair treatment of all university workers. Observers warn that a prolonged strike could disrupt academic calendars and deepen concerns over the state of higher education nationwide.
