FG Proposes New Cybersecurity Council as NDPC Probes Major Data Breach

The Federal Government plans to strengthen Nigeria’s cybersecurity by setting up a Cybersecurity Coordination Council. This body will unite government agencies, private firms and other stakeholders to improve threat detection and response. Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy Bosun Tijani said cybersecurity is a shared national duty. He called for partnerships across industry, government and civil society to build a resilient digital ecosystem. Meanwhile, the Nigeria Data Protection Commission has launched an investigation into a suspected breach at several payment providers. The commission is reviewing the scope of leaked data and assessing compliance with the Data Protection Act, 2023.
