At a FIFA reception in New York, former US President Donald Trump questioned England coach Thomas Tuchel’s shift to a back five after taking the lead against Argentina in the World Cup semi-final. England went 1-0 up through Anthony Gordon but then dropped deeper. Argentina scored twice in the final minutes to win 2-1 and book a final against Spain. Trump singled out captain Harry Kane, joking, “They took their best player and put him on defence. We’ve got to be a little offensive, right?” He added, “What do I know about coaching?” The gathering also saw a hint from FIFA President Gianni Infantino about expanding the men’s World Cup to 64 teams. The next edition will be co-hosted by the US, Canada and Mexico.
