High Court Orders INEC to Deregister ADC, Accord and Three Other Parties

High Court Orders INEC to Deregister ADC, Accord and Three Other Parties

The Federal High Court in Abuja has directed INEC to remove the African Democratic Congress and four other parties from its register. Justice Peter Lifu delivered the ruling. The case was filed by the National Forum of Former Legislators under suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/2637/2026. The plaintiffs argued that these parties failed to meet the thresholds in Section 225A of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, and the Electoral Act 2022. In its judgment, the court found that none of the five parties—ADC, Action Peoples Party, Action Alliance, Accord Party and Zenith Labour Party—secured at least 25% of votes in a state during last year’s presidential election or won any elective seat at national, state or local levels.

This ruling really highlights how vulnerable smaller parties are when a single suit can erase their registration overnight.

Affected parties should prepare appeal filings immediately and gather solid evidence of any procedural errors to challenge this outcome.
