Oba Ewuare II Launches Spiritual Campaign Against Banditry in Edo
The Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo Ewuare II, has directed traditionalists across Edo South to begin a week-long spiritual exercise to combat rising banditry and violent crime in the state. During a palace meeting with native doctors, priests and priestesses, the monarch said the initiative came from God and ancestral guidance. The campaign will culminate on Thursday at 6:00 a.m. with curses pronounced on criminals and their collaborators at the Oba’s Palace. Edo State Government has also announced plans to set up special courts for armed robbery, kidnapping and ritual killings to fast-track trials and punishments. The Oba emphasised that traditional institutions must complement government efforts to restore security in Edo.
