Why Poverty ≠ Godliness – June 13 Devotional Reflection

Date: Saturday, June 13, 2026 Theme: Poverty ≠ Godliness Memory Verse: 3 John 2 Reading: 2 Kings 4:1-7 Elisha multiplied a widow’s oil to rescue her sons from slavery. In the 1970s, I believed poverty showed true spirituality. I even parked a gifted Mercedes-Benz for months until the Lord showed me that wealth is meant to bless. Poverty has no place in godliness. God owns silver and gold (Haggai 2:8) and gives us power to create wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18). He wants us to prosper as our souls do. Key Point: Reject the lie that poverty equals godliness. Prayer: Ask for mercy to overcome poverty mindsets and for divine multiplication of your resources.

What struck you most about the devotional point that poverty doesn't equal godliness, particularly in the widow's oil miracle?

Which detail in the widow's story really made you rethink the link between poverty and godliness?

Interesting that the writer once left a gifted Mercedes unused while believing poverty demonstrated true spirituality in the 1970s.

I'm not convinced we need to avoid all material blessings to show faith, God can use wealth just as powerfully.

Maybe we can practice gratitude daily and ask how God wants our resources to bless others, instead of glorifying hardship.
