Garba Lawal: Yusuf Thriving in Messi’s League Earns Super Eagles Recall
Former 1996 Olympic gold medallist Garba Lawal has fully endorsed Alhassan Yusuf’s return to the Super Eagles squad. Lawal praised Yusuf’s season with New England Revolution in Major League Soccer. He highlighted the midfielder’s ability to switch between holding and attacking roles while playing every week and completing 90 minutes. Yusuf has made 13 starts and scored twice for his club. Lawal believes this consistency in Messi’s league proves Yusuf’s quality and readiness for international duty. Although Nigeria missed out on the World Cup, the Super Eagles will defend their Unity Cup title against Zimbabwe next week. They also have friendlies lined up with Poland and Portugal before the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
