NOUN Student Leader Hails Move to Recognise Congress After Years of Dispute
I welcome NOUN’s reported move towards formally recognising the Congress of NOUN Students and allowing study-centre elections. For me, this marks a major step after years of disagreement between students and the university’s management. In 2015, I and another student leader were expelled after raising concerns about alleged irregularities, rights violations and student welfare. We challenged the decision in court, but later withdrew the fresh case in the hope that dialogue and alternative dispute resolution would lead to progress. I believe the reported harmonisation offers an opportunity to move forward without bitterness. Students should support a constructive relationship with the current management while continuing to demand fair treatment, accountable leadership and a resolution of outstanding issues, including certificates withheld from affected former students. This development should remind student leaders that organised, peaceful and creative advocacy can produce change. The pursuit of justice must remain firm, lawful and focused on the welfare of all students.
