Presidency Backs Wizkid’s “Essence” as a Grammy-Worthy Hit

Presidency Backs Wizkid’s “Essence” as a Grammy-Worthy Hit

Viral clips from Coachella 2026 showed Wizkid and Tems joining Justin Bieber on stage for the “Essence” remix. The performance reignited global interest in the hit single. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Media and Publicity, took to social media to question why “Essence” has never won a Grammy. He praised its rhythm and lasting impact. First released in October 2020 on the Made in Lagos album, “Essence” became the first Nigerian song to enter the Billboard Hot 100 and Global 200. Its 2021 remix with Justin Bieber further cemented Afrobeats on the world stage.
