From Reluctant Reader to Aspiring Writer

From Reluctant Reader to Aspiring Writer

Reading has never been my favourite pursuit. It often feels like a chore—juggling books or screens, deciphering signs on billboards, or scrambling to fix my mum’s phone after I accidentally changed its language to Chinese. Writing, on the other hand, lights me up. I dream of crafting words with the elegance of Shakespeare, the insight of Chinua Achebe, or the depth of Buchi Emecheta. I’m inspired by Nigerian legends like Soyinka and Gimba, as well as emerging voices such as Nasiba Babale. I’ve come to accept that great writing grows from great reading. Though I’m a reluctant reader, I’ve decided to read more, write daily, and refine my craft. With dedication and faith, I believe I can become the writer I aspire to be.
