Ycee Reveals Six-Year Bipolar Battle and Nigeria’s Mental Health Gap

He told Arise TV that he paused his care after returning to Lagos due to a severe shortage of psychiatrists and psychologists. He reflected on multiple misdiagnoses before finally being diagnosed in 2020. Ycee contrasted his London experience—where mental health helplines and conversations ran alongside COVID updates—with the lack of similar support systems in Nigeria. He urged better funding and staffing for mental healthcare, warning that stigma still prevents many from seeking help. He also noted that basic medical care remains out of reach for far too many Nigerians.
