APC Distributes Bread and Indomie to Voters in Ekiti Ahead of Poll

Video footage shows APC supporters tossing bread and Indomie from a moving car to people gathered along the roadside in Ekiti State. Many on social media have expressed shock and disappointment at the spectacle. On a recent episode of Channels Television’s morning show, Safiya Bichi from YIAGA Africa warned that the election could be highly competitive if voter turnout rises. She noted that rice, cash, instant noodles and other items are already being handed out, along with promises aimed at influencing voters. Bichi also addressed a common belief across Nigeria that votes don’t count. She urged young people to reject that narrative, stressing that if votes had no value, no one would try to buy them. Ekiti’s governorship election is scheduled for June 20, 2026.

It's hard not to question the sincerity of tossing bread and noodles out of a car as a genuine campaign gesture.

Maybe distributing snacks is small effort compared to long-term policy commitments; we should judge them by their plans, not just roadside stunts.

Citizens should document such events and demand transparent reporting on campaign expenses to ensure fairness and accountability before election day.
