Veteran Journalist Demands NNRA Appoint Governing Board and Fix Promotion Irregularities

Veteran science journalist Obiechina Obba has urged the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) to “clean up its act” over unfair staff promotions and the absence of a governing board. He criticized the sidelining of senior officials in favour of juniors and warned that operating without a board undermines the agency’s credibility as it readies Nigeria for nuclear power generation. Obba highlighted viral footage of a senior officer being blocked by armed security and stressed that nuclear regulation requires the highest standards of transparency and integrity. Retired NNRA directors and other stakeholders back his call, arguing that restoring board functionality and fair promotion processes is essential to build public trust and advance the nation’s nuclear energy ambitions safely.

Obba's critique feels too narrow if he blames only the missing board without considering other governance gaps at the NNRA.
