OAU Clinches Historic Double Victory at 2026 University Duel Competition

OAU Clinches Historic Double Victory at 2026 University Duel Competition

A quiet revolution in Nigerian universities reached its peak when Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, dominated the 2026 University Duel Competition. Sixty-two institutions and 186 top contestants battled across Applied Mathematics, Data Analysis, General Knowledge, and Verbal Reasoning. OAU went into the competition determined to improve on its third-place finish in 2025. By the end, it had made history with an unprecedented double sweep, winning both the University Duel and the Smart Challenge. According to the Dean of Student Affairs, this is the first time a single institution has claimed both titles in one edition. Held with support from a leading telecom sponsor, the competition aims to shift Nigeria’s youth from technology consumers to creators. Prize awards included ₦3 million for the University Duel champions, ₦1 million for Smart Challenge winners, plus scholarships for emerging tech talent. The success highlights the nation’s growing STEM potential. As OAU celebrates, other universities are already preparing to challenge the Ile-Ife juggernaut next year. Which school will step up for 2027?
