From Ibusa to World Champion: Why Nigerians Should Back Lawrence Okolie’s Journey
Lawrence Okolie is a British boxer with deep roots in Ibusa, Delta State. Born in London to Nigerian parents, he proudly embraces his Anioma heritage. Nicknamed “The Sauce” and “The Octopus”, he stands 6'5" with an impressive reach. His rise began after overcoming weight struggles as a teen. Inspired by Anthony Joshua’s Olympic run, he joined Team GB at Rio 2016 and turned professional. In March 2021, he won the WBO Cruiserweight title and added the WBC Bridgerweight belt in May 2024. Late in 2024, Okolie moved up to heavyweight, knocking out his first opponents and climbing the WBC rankings. He holds a 23–1 record with 17 knockouts and aims for the heavyweight world title next. Supporting Okolie means more than cheering a boxer. It’s about celebrating Ibusa pride, inspiring young athletes, and showcasing Nigerian boxing talent on the global stage.
