Four Charged in Lagos Over Alleged ₦200m Event Equipment Theft

Four Charged in Lagos Over Alleged ₦200m Event Equipment Theft

Four people have been arraigned at Igbosere Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for the alleged theft of event equipment worth ₦200 million from their employer. The defendants include three sales managers of LUXE Rental Services and a woman accused of receiving the stolen items. They are said to have removed hundreds of chairs, tables, luxury furniture and decorative flowers while the company owner was away. Police investigations led officers to arrest the managers at different hideouts around Lagos Island. They then traced the goods to the fourth defendant, who is accused of knowingly taking the stolen property. The court heard that they face charges of conspiracy, stealing and receiving stolen goods under the Criminal Law of Lagos State. They pleaded not guilty, and bail was granted at ₦1 million each with two sureties. The case returns on August 19, 2026.

What do you think allowed those sales managers to allegedly steal two hundred million naira worth of equipment from their employer?

Did the company's inventory or asset tracking process have any gaps that made this possible?

It's surprising that reputable rental services like LUXE would have internal controls weak enough for such a massive theft to occur.

I'm not convinced the employer is blameless here; allowing managers unsupervised access to expensive gear seems irresponsible.

Companies should implement regular audits and stricter equipment tracking to prevent internal theft of high-value assets like this.
