Viral Kidnap Alert in Ogun Debunked as Officers Mistaken for Suspects
The Ogun State Police Command has debunked a viral claim that two suspected kidnappers were arrested in Kanuyi Community, Simawa. The men were actually officers returning from an official assignment in Sagamu. A police spokesperson explained that videos and photos circulating online misidentified the officers as criminals. Simawa Division personnel rescued them from a hostile crowd and took them into custody for proper verification. Checks of valid police IDs, deployment papers and uniforms confirmed their status. Their parent formation in Lagos State also authenticated their identities as officers on lawful duty. The spokesperson urged residents to avoid mob action, verify facts with the appropriate authorities and refrain from sharing unconfirmed information that could cause panic or harm reputations.
