Luigi Mangione Pleads Guilty to Federal Charges in UnitedHealthcare CEO Killing

Luigi Mangione has pleaded guilty in federal court to stalking charges connected to the December 2024 killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan. He admitted shooting Thompson and could receive a life sentence at his December 18 sentencing. Prosecutors said Mangione travelled from Atlanta to New York, used false identification to check into a Manhattan hostel and surveilled the area before Thompson attended an investor conference. He was arrested in Altoona, Pennsylvania, five days after the shooting. Mangione also admitted making the firearm with a 3D printer and fitting it with a magazine and silencer. His lawyers have separately asked a New York state court to dismiss the murder charges, arguing that they breach double-jeopardy protections.
