Atiku Blasts Tinubu Administration: Stop Blaming Nigerians for Insecurity and Hardship

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Tinubu’s government for shifting the blame for rising insecurity and economic hardship onto ordinary citizens and the media. He described recent remarks from the presidency—suggesting many kidnapping incidents happen because people travel at night—as an admission that Nigerians are only safe for a limited part of the day. Atiku warned that labelling Nigeria an “eight-hour economy” would hurt trade and free movement. Atiku argued that protecting lives and property is the government’s primary duty, not the responsibility of traders, farmers or commuters. He pointed to killings in Benue and Plateau, bandit attacks in Zamfara, Katsina and Niger, and widespread kidnappings as proof that insecurity is a reality, not media exaggeration. Beyond security, he highlighted soaring food prices, high inflation and unemployment, saying millions now struggle to feed their families. He cautioned that focusing on managing narratives rather than tackling root causes will erode public trust and harm Nigeria’s future.
