Nigeria Olympic Committee to Celebrate 2026 Olympic Day on June 27

The Nigeria Olympic Committee, under the global auspices of Olympic Solidarity and its Sport-for-All Commission, will host the 2026 Olympic Day celebration on Saturday, June 27. This annual event highlights the benefits of physical activity and champions the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship, and Respect. Chairman Dr. Abdul Ibrahim emphasises inclusivity and the social joy of movement. He urges Nigerians of all ages to jog, walk, and invite someone new for a shared exercise experience. This year’s theme aims to bridge generational gaps and foster meaningful connections between youth and older people. State Sport Councils across the federation have received invitations and are gearing up for high-impact local events. The NOC also welcomes support from corporate organisations and philanthropists. Partners will gain brand visibility and align with a cause that promotes national unity and wellness.

It's great to promote physical activity, but similar events often struggle to reach remote communities without sufficient local support.

I'm not convinced one day of celebration can deliver lasting Olympic values without follow-up programs or measurable goals.

Organizers could partner with schools and local gyms to offer ongoing fitness workshops and track participation after June 27.
