My Girlfriend of Six Years Left Me to Become a Catholic Sister
Victor says his first serious relationship began in secondary school and lasted nearly six years. Although he and Esther cared deeply for each other, differences in faith and her growing conviction to become a Catholic sister put increasing strain on their plans for the future. When Esther entered religious formation in 2018, Victor struggled to accept the breakup. He spent years hoping she would change her mind, and the loss left him afraid to become emotionally invested in another relationship. He later found love again during NYSC, but a long-distance relationship, trust issues and an unsuccessful proposal led to another painful breakup. Victor says both experiences taught him not to tie his self-worth to being chosen, and to stop forcing relationships that are not meant to work.
