CAPPA Calls for Polluter Accountability and Climate Action on World Environment Day

CAPPA Calls for Polluter Accountability and Climate Action on World Environment Day

On World Environment Day 2026, CAPPA urged governments at all levels to place environmental justice at the centre of national policy under the theme “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.” The group demanded that federal and state authorities hold corporate polluters accountable. They called for protection of vulnerable communities and action against the worsening impacts of climate change across Nigeria. CAPPA highlighted continued oil spills by Shell in the Niger Delta. It urged full site remediation, transparent environmental monitoring, and fair compensation for affected residents. The organisation also warned that coastal erosion in Ondo State and climate-driven resource conflicts in northern states require urgent government intervention. They called for sustainable coastal defence projects, climate-resilient agriculture, and inclusive environmental governance.
