DR Congo Shock Portugal to 1-1 Draw – Player Ratings and Match Report

Portugal were held to a 1-1 draw by DR Congo in their opening World Cup group game. Joao Neves headed Portugal into an early lead before Yoane Wissa nodded in the equaliser just before half-time. Portugal passed aimlessly for long spells and saw a Joao Cancelo overhead effort ruled out for offside. DR Congo grew in confidence on the counter and nearly took the lead again when Cedric Bakambu struck the post. Francisco Conceicao added much-needed spark after coming on, but Cristiano Ronaldo and Bernardo Silva failed to make an impact. Player Ratings (out of 10): Diogo Costa 5, Joao Cancelo 6, Tomas Araujo 5, Renato Veiga 6, Bruno Fernandes 5, Bernardo Silva 3, Cristiano Ronaldo 3, Francisco Conceicao 7

Portugal should focus on quicker build-up play and tighter pressing to regain control in their next match.
