Taiwan Showcases HIMARS ‘Shoot-and-Scoot’ Drill on West Coast
Taiwan’s military recently test-fired its U.S.-made HIMARS rocket system westward toward the Chinese mainland in a live-fire drill off Taichung. This was the first launch of the precision-guided system from Taiwan’s west coast. Officials said the exercise simulated defense against an amphibious assault and highlighted HIMARS’ rapid shoot-and-scoot capability. With a range of about 300 km, it can reach targets in China’s Fujian Province and complements Taiwan’s domestic Thunderbolt-2000 rocket launcher. China claims Taiwan as part of its territory and conducts regular military operations nearby. Taiwan rejects Beijing’s sovereignty claims and continues modernizing its defenses to deter any potential invasion.
