Overcoming Evil With Good: A Story of Forgiveness

Romans 12:21 teaches us not to be overcome by evil, but to overcome evil with good. This message is illustrated by the story of a South Korean orphanage head whose son was executed during the Korean War. After the war, the young communist leader responsible for the killing was captured and sentenced to death. Instead of seeking revenge, the grieving father pleaded for mercy. He took the young man into his home and chose to train and care for him. That act of forgiveness exposed the former enemy to Christian love, and he later became a pastor. When we are hurt or betrayed, Scripture calls us to resist retaliation, leave judgment to God, and respond to evil with good.
