Tinubu Taps Ex-UNILAG VC Prof Ogundipe as Chairman of NUC Governing Board

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe as the new chairman of the National Universities Commission (NUC) Governing Board. The announcement came in a statement by the presidential spokesman. Ogundipe served as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos from 2017 to 2022 and currently holds the position of Pro-Chancellor at Redeemer’s University in Osun State. He succeeds Emeritus Professor Olufemi Aina, who resigned less than a year into his tenure. A botanist and academic leader, the 66-year-old holds a PhD in Botany and an MBA. His expertise spans molecular plant taxonomy, biosystematics, ethnobotany and ecological conservation. He is also a fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science and other professional bodies. As NUC chairman, he will guide the regulation and development of Nigeria’s university system, focusing on funding, academic stability, quality assurance and global competitiveness. President Tinubu expressed confidence that Ogundipe’s leadership will boost the credibility of higher education and drive key reforms.
