Arteta One Win Away from Breaking Wenger’s Champions League Record

Arteta One Win Away from Breaking Wenger’s Champions League Record

Mikel Arteta is poised to rewrite Arsenal’s European history after securing a 1-1 draw at Atlético Madrid in the Champions League semi-final first leg. That result extended Arsenal’s unbeaten run in the competition to 13 games, matching the club record set by Arsène Wenger between March 2005 and April 2006, when they reached the final. Viktor Gyökeres opened the scoring before half-time, but Julián Álvarez’s penalty in the second half kept Atlético alive. Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman also spurned several chances despite his lively display. If Arsenal avoid defeat in the return leg at the Emirates, Arteta will eclipse Wenger’s mark and set a new record for the longest unbeaten European streak in club history.

Stretching Wenger's record is impressive, but Atletico Madrid exposed defensive frailties we shouldn't overlook heading into the second leg.

Breaking the record feels overrated without a trophy at the end, Arsenal still need to prove they can win the Champions League.

Focus on shoring up that shaky defence first, then build on your attack—winning the next match demands tactical discipline and consistency.
