Civil Society Coalition Backs NNRA Management, Demands Promotions Follow Civil Service Rules

In Abuja, a coalition of civil society groups has voiced confidence in the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA). The group praised the agency for upholding due process, staff welfare, and federal civil service regulations in handling promotions and appointments. The coalition’s president, Comrade Basah Mohammed, said promotions at NNRA follow established rules, organizational structures, vacancy availability, and qualification requirements—not the discretion of any individual. He stressed that the authority offers staff avenues for grievances through performance evaluations, petitions, and oversight directives. The group commended NNRA’s leadership under Dr. Ya’u Usman Idris for maintaining professionalism while strengthening Nigeria’s nuclear safety framework. It urged workers to resolve disputes through internal channels and fair administrative procedures rather than media campaigns. The League reaffirmed support for reforms that promote transparency, accountability, and institutional stability. It called on all stakeholders to respect the rule of law and bolster the nation’s nuclear regulatory system.

E no too make sense say promotions must follow federal civil service rules strictly, with no consideration for sector-specific expertise or urgent vacancies.

Perhaps NNRA's example could prompt a standard toolkit for tracking promotions, ensuring transparent timelines and clear communication to all staff across government bodies.
