CFN Meeting in Ogun: Cooperatives Must Drive Nigeria’s Economic Transformation

The Cooperative Federation of Nigeria held its quarterly board meeting in Abeokuta, Ogun State, bringing together cooperative leaders, government officials and development partners to discuss the sector’s future. In a keynote address, Dr. Peter O. Ashade urged cooperatives to evolve from mere representation to strategic economic actors. He highlighted global cooperative statistics and proposed five pillars—from a national investment platform to a digital transformation leader—to reshape Nigeria’s cooperative ecosystem. Participants resolved to pursue a ten-point reform agenda, including digital strategy and an investment fund, and called on governments to recognise cooperatives as key drivers of financial inclusion, job creation and national growth. The meeting also confirmed the 2026 national conference in Abuja.
