May 8: Abuja Court to Rule on Sowore’s No-Case Submission in Cyberstalking Trial
Justice Mohammed Umar has adjourned ruling on the no-case submission filed by activist Omoyele Sowore. The court will deliver its decision on May 8, 2026, after both parties adopted their final written addresses. Sowore’s lawyer, Marshall Abubakar, argued that the Department of State Services failed to establish a prima facie case and omitted key witnesses. He urged the court to discharge and acquit his client. DSS counsel Akinlolu Kehinde (SAN) countered that sufficient evidence and exhibits were presented to proceed. The charges arise from two social media posts in August 2025 that allegedly defamed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Sowore has pleaded not guilty under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention and Amendment) Act. The upcoming ruling will decide whether the trial continues.
