Maduka University Defends ₦2 Million Transcript Fee Amid Transfer Row
Fresh insights have emerged on Maduka University’s ₦2 million transcript charge for students in professional courses. Education advocate Alex Onyia met with the university’s founder, Dr. Samuel Maduka Onyishi, who said the woman protesting the fee still owes unpaid school bills and has yet to secure admission elsewhere. He added that the student already received a statement of result and that the transcript will be released once a new admission is confirmed. The policy aims to curb the trend of students enrolling in private schools for a year and then transferring to federal universities without meeting JAMB requirements. Private institutions offering medicine, nursing, pharmacy and law must meet strict accreditation standards despite admitting far fewer students than federal universities. Onyia noted that similar fees exist at other private universities to discourage mass transfers and protect investment in professional programmes.
