Benue Governor Appoints Sister as First Lady, Sparks Protests
During Reverend Fr. Moses Adasu’s tenure, the unmarried governor’s First Lady duties fell to the deputy governor’s wife, Patricia Yakubu Agada. Governor Hyacinth Alia, also unmarried, bypassed Dr. Sam Ode, the deputy’s wife, and designated his sister, Hon. Scolastica Bem-Sor, to perform traditional First Lady functions. Critics are asking what changed since the Adasu era and have staged protests over this unexpected appointment.
