FG Launches National Textbook Ranking System to Improve Classroom Resources

FG Launches National Textbook Ranking System to Improve Classroom Resources

The Federal Government will introduce a National Textbook Ranking System to raise standards in basic and secondary education. The Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council will now assess, rank and approve only top-scoring textbooks that match the national curriculum. Specialist subject committees will evaluate each title for academic quality, clarity and curriculum alignment. Only the highest-rated books will be cleared for classroom use, while unranked texts will no longer be allowed in schools. The policy kicks in with the September 2026 academic session. A nationwide sensitisation campaign will guide teachers, administrators and other stakeholders on how to comply.
