1 / 4

The Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade has arrested a recruitment fraudster in Bantaje village, Wukari LGA, Taraba State. The suspect allegedly collected over N3.6 million from civilians under the false promise of securing army enlistment slots. Local vigilantes detained the 51-year-old fraudster on May 22 and handed him to troops at FOB Wukari. He confessed to taking N3,627,000 from six victims, claiming the funds were recruitment fees. Officials also recovered an Infinix phone and N3,050 in cash. Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Akaliro commended the troops and vigilante group for their swift action. He reiterated that army recruitment is entirely free, transparent, and based on merit. Members of the public are urged to report any extortion, impersonation, or recruitment scams to security agencies. The 6 Brigade remains committed to protecting citizens and maintaining security across Taraba State.

I'm not convinced victims are entirely blameless; shouldn't people research official recruitment channels more actively?

Local authorities should publish clear guidelines and verified enlistment points so people know where to report suspicious offers promptly.
