When Ambition Takes the Place of God’s Calling
Today’s devotional reflects on Abimelech, Gideon’s son, who pursued power through manipulation, violence and the destruction of his own family. Unlike Gideon, who rejected a crown because God alone should rule, Abimelech tried to seize authority through personal ambition. The lesson is that not every bold step forward is ordained by God. Obedience may look like progress, but so can selfish ambition. The difference lies in the motive, the methods used and whether one’s rise harms others. Examine the goals you are pursuing. Are they rooted in God’s calling and integrity, or in fear of being left behind? Pray for pure motives and for the grace to pursue only the path God has prepared for you.
