Why Military Power May Not Force Iran Into Submission
War is not won through military strength alone. Russia’s prolonged war in Ukraine shows how difficult it can be to force a determined population into submission, despite superior firepower and huge human and financial costs. Kyiv holds deep historical significance in Russian civilisation, yet that has not made the conflict easy to resolve. In the same way, I do not believe military intervention can simply force Iran and its people to surrender. If America’s real objective is Iran’s oil or regime change, it may face the same outcome seen in Afghanistan: years of spending, deaths and instability without achieving lasting control. Replacing one ruling religious establishment with another would not amount to victory.
